Cultivating Christlikeness
Christlikeness is the steady work of becoming like Jesus in thought, word, and action. At I AM Sententially-Versed, that work begins with measured words: Scripture received, spoken, and lived on purpose.
What Scripture means by Christlikeness
Conformed to the image of the Son
The New Testament describes Christlikeness as God's purpose for every believer. Paul writes that God predestined His people to be conformed to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29). It is not a performance. It is a transformation that God works in us as we behold Christ.
In brief: as we look upon the Lord's glory, we are being transformed into His likeness, from one degree of glory to another.2 Corinthians 3:18 · Read it in the ISV ↗
The method
Interrupt the pattern with the Word
Most of life runs on an automatic pattern: something happens, we think, we feel, we speak, we act, and we live with the results. Christlike living places God's Word at the front of that chain, so that faith shapes the thought, the thought governs the feeling, and the feeling yields measured words and Christlike behavior.
- Stimulus
- The Word
- Faith
- Renewed thought
- Governed feeling
- Measured words
- Christlike behavior
Outcomes are not guaranteed by speech alone. The aim is faithful, accountable living, practiced one day at a time.
Why “sentential”
Words chosen with meaning
Sentential means “relating to a sentence.” It comes from the Latin sententia, “a thought, a judgment, a meaning expressed.” To be Sententially-Versed is to be practiced in words that carry weight: sentences drawn from Scripture, spoken deliberately, and lived out. Words have power. But sentential words shape destiny.
